Diane

Diane

Here's her story...

Diane went on an Orphan Helpers mission trip to Honduras in June 2011 with a 12-member team from First Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia.

"I and 11 others went to San Pedro Sula this past June to love the abandoned and orphaned children, teenage girls and incarcerated teen boys. As typical, the team always plans how we are going to provide the kids with some fun activities, songs (in Spanish!!) and skits (through an interpreter). That’s all good. But what we didn’t count on was Jesus showing up in a special way and impacting US. We marveled at how well the team got along, went with the flow, and everything came together even if that wasn’t the plan.

It was the last day, and we couldn’t go into one of the centers, so we hopped into the van and went to Nueva Esperanza Orphanage. I was impacted for life as I knew God was touching my heart in a new way. I had held these babies most of the week, but today was different. It is really indescribable. Sometimes our own hearts have to be broken before we can know the heart of God. He cares so much and wants us to be the hands and feet of His purpose. I will be going back sooner than later and many in the team were impacted in their own way.

There are so many positive things going on in Honduras. Although it takes time, diligence and money to make a way, it is so worth it! To see the improvement in their lives and the changes in our own. There will always be a lot of work to be done, but the Lord blesses the fruits in His own timing. It is right that we should care for the least of these."
